The Baan Duu Market provided a great place to grow more than food items. The CRICS Kindergarten students found a visit to the market an opportunity to grow vocabulary. They were searching out the vegetables, fruits, and other foods on a September morning.
The vocabulary exploration included both English and Thai names for foods on sale at the market. We snapped photos for labeling and further exploration back at the classroom. The children also chose favorite sites for pictures, which included a display of squash blossom, vine, and pumpkins.
Weighing and purchasing fruits to eat back at school was the easy part. Deciding how to get only a few and not everything in sight was tough. We wanted a dozen kinds or more.
Our visit to the market has generated more learning and activities for our study of markets all over the world, understanding commerce, and growing vocabulary. Some learning is best begun outside of the classroom for maximum learning and enjoyment.
