On October 12 we held the 4X4 Volleyball Tournament at CRICS. It was organized by Corinne and Greg Hortman, the volleyball coach and her husband, who also happens to be the high school principal. They set up two nets on the court and extra nets on the grass field. Fifteen teams signed up; they were split into four pools with one pool having three teams. The teams were made up of 4-8 players consisting of students, parents, teachers, and/or their friends. Team names varied from “Plan B” to “Monster’s Inc,” “Chinese Airplanes,” “The Young’ins,” “The Foxingos,” and many other fun names. We had a ton of guests from the community coming to play. Games started early in the morning and lasted until after lunch time. The school served pulled-pork sandwiches and hotdogs for lunch, and the snack bar was open, selling special snacks like chips and pop and stuff.
The craziest event, of the day, was an injury to my brother. His earring got caught in the net, and it ripped clean off, tearing his ear. He went and got stitches, then returned to continue playing.
It was a very fun day; a good chance for people to meet, relax, and enjoy the sunny day together. The winning team was Corinne’s team, of course, which included Greg, Parrish, and A. Karum. But it still was a great tournament!
